About 8,000 in Midlands without power; Chapin and Harbison most affected

February 13, 2014

Approximately 8,000 SCE&G customers in Richland and Lexington counties are without power as of about 11 a.m.

The hardest hit areas in Richland and Lexington counties were in Chapin and Harbison, said Keller Kissam, president of retail operations for SCE&G, speaking in a media conference call.

Kissam said a realistic timeframe for power to be restored to all customers statewide is the end of the weekend. Last night, power was restored to some 35,000 to 40,000.

Hardest-hit areas in S.C. were Aiken as well as Colleton and Dorchester counties, he said.

Power will gradually be returned to those served by long, rural lines.
