All Midlands school districts made it official by early afternoon: No school on Friday for its students.

Even before the official announcement, Richland 1 superintendent Percy Mack says his survey of icy roads this morning drew one conclusion: "Forget it."

Mack says the main thoroughfares are passable but the rural roads are a mess and would be treacherous for buses and cars to navigate.

He echoed state police and emergency personnel who urge those who don't have to be out on the roads to stay home.

"Let me tell you something, it's nuts to be out there," Mack said.

And, what about all those snow days to make up? State legislators are considering measures to allow districts to forgive days from the recent weather events.

Also announcing closures were Laurens schools and USC Salkehatchie.
