A small fire in the trash chute at Finlay House in Five Points closed parts of Harden Street on Friday morning.

One person was transported to the hospital for non life threatening injuries, said Columbia Fire Department Chief Aubrey Jenkins.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but some smoke is in the hallways and common areas, said Brick Lewis, spokesman for Columbia Fire Department. Fire fighters are going room by room checking on every resident that’s in the structure, he said. Columbia Police Department is involved because of traffic control, he said.

Harden Street is closed at Blossom, Devine and Wheat streets, Columbia Police Department tweeted around 11 a.m.

Roads will likely open in 20 to 30 minutes, the tweet said.
