— Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is asking for the community’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted for attempted murder and burglary.

Stanley Jones, 26, is accused of breaking into a home at 3432 Woodbranch Road around 11 a.m. Jan. 9 by throwing an object through the rear kitchen window.

According to Sheriff Lott, Jones stole a wallet and the outside video surveillance camera. Jones damaged a chair outside the home, and smashed a window pane Sheriff Lott said.

Jones, along with an unknown suspect, is also accused of kicking in the door of a home at 8185 Brookfield Road on Feb. 4.

Sheriff Lott said Jones shot a male resident in the upper body upon entering the home.

The victim was taken to Palmetto Health Richland in serious condition Sheriff Lott said.

Sheriff Lott said deputies entered the home to get the victim’s identification and saw several mason jars containing marijuana in plain view. Lott said police believe the two suspects attempted to steal money and drugs from the home.

The suspects were captured on video surveillance, which was outside the home.
