COLUMBIA, SC Columbia Water Works issued a boil water advisory for residents of Sheffield Road after a ruptured six-inch main in the area.

People living on the one block road between Forest Drive and Gervais Street are urged to boil any water used for drinking or food preparation for at least 60 seconds before use.

Anyone living near Sheffield Road who experienced a drop in water pressure also is urged to follow the same precautions to lower the risk of bacterial contamination of their food.
