— A quickly spreading rumor of bedbugs has cost the owner of Lexington's Monkey Joe's dearly.

People have taken to social media to spread the rumor. They called local media. They cancelled parties.

On Wednesday, owner Brad Ballington went on the offensive to defend his business, which caters to young families with bounce castles and childrens' slides at its location on U.S. 378 near Interstate 20.

He called in local pest control experts from Cayce Exterminating, which said there was no evidence of pests. And then he had a bug-sniffing dog brought in from K-9 Bedbug Detection Services. The dog found no bedbugs either.

"There's not even a hint of a bedbug," Ballington said the dog's owner said.

Then, he went to Facebook to respond to each customer's complaint:

"It has been determined that there are no bed bugs on premise. We take the health and safety of our guests very seriously and we appreciate you sharing your concerns," he said to several customers.
