Lexington man, woman charged with breaking into vehicles

— A Lexington man and woman were arrested Tuesday, charged with breaking into vehicles near Red Bank.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrests of: Daniel Allen Lewis, 31, charged with breaking into motor vehicles and possession of marijuana; and Rachel Louise Smith, 26, was charged with breaking into motor vehicles and possession of methamphetamine.

An arrest warrant alleges that Lewis and Smith forced entry into motor vehicles at 5333 Platt Springs Road, near Red Bank, with the intent to steal items of value. Deputies found Lewis in the vehicle, according to a press release. Deputies caught Smith hiding in a separate vehicle after Lewis was detained.

A search revealed Lewis had items on him that belonged to the vehicle’s owner as well as a bag of marijuana. A search revealed that Smith was in possession of methamphetamine.
