Columbia police investigating two weekend armed robberies

February 23, 2014

— A robber using box cutters to terrorize sales clerks robbed two Columbia businesses over the weekend and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In one robbery, late Saturday afternoon, at the Dollar Tree at 2001 Rosewood Drive, a man brandished a box cutter, threatened an employee and made off with cash from the register.

Then shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Circle K gas station at 6122 Garners Ferry Rd., a man also brandished box cutters and threatened an employee. Then he grabbed a cash register – which contained money – nad ran out of the door.

No one was hurt in either robbery. Both robberies took place Saturday.

A police spokeswoman said Sunday that although there are marked similarities betweeen the two incidents, they can’t say for sure at this point whether the same person committed the robberies.

No further details were available.
