USC rallies past San Diego

Freshman Andrew Schafer won in three sets at No. 6 singles to lift No. 31 South Carolina to a 4-3 victory against No. 44 San Diego at Carolina Tennis Center. The Gamecocks (7-4) also got singles wins from Tsvetan Mihov at No. 1, Andrew Adams at No. 3 and Chip Cox at No. 5. ...

At Montgomery, Ala., Hunter Harrington won at No. 1 singles to lead No. 21 Clemson to a 4-2 victory against Texas Tech in the Blue-Gray Men’s National Tennis Classic. With the victory, Clemson captured third place in the event.

USC finishes third

At Humble, Texas, No. 25 South Carolina shot an 8-under 280 in the final round to finish third in the Bayou City Collegiate Championships at the Golf Club of Houston. USC’s Matt NeSmith, Will Murphy and Blaine Woodruff finished in a tie for 21st in the individual standings at 1-under.

Clemson in sixth at Puerto Rico

At El Grande, Puerto Rico, Cody Proveaux and Miller Capps shot rounds of 2-under 70 to lead Clemson to sixth place after one round of the Puerto Rico Classic. The Tigers are at 287, 14 shots behind top-ranked Alabama.


Gamecocks get win

Sophomore third baseman Jordan Bizzell scored a pair of runs to help the Gamecocks (11-2) defeat UNC Wilmington (5-6) 2-1 to close the 2014 Gamecock Invitational at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. Julie Sarratt (4-1) claimed the win, giving up one unearned run in four innings.
