Its true that I love purple.
In fact, purple is my favorite color. But thats not why this is the purple blog.
Nor is this the purple blog because were launching it in the run-up to Lent.
Its the purple blog because its not the red blog. Or the blue blog.
Its the purple blog because the world isnt black and white or red and blue. Just as people arent red and blue. Just as my colleague Warren Bolton and I most certainly arent red or blue.
Like most people, our opinions lean sometimes to what the politicians and pundits call the right, sometimes to what they call the left, sometimes right down the center and sometimes all three on a single issue.
Like most elected officials used to be, were pragmatists. Who put making our government work ahead of any political philosophy. We understand that compromise is essential to any human endeavor, whether thats a marriage or a parent-child relationship or a workplace or a government. We understand that its better to get 90 percent of what you want, and often less than that, than to get nothing.
In case you stumbled upon this blog in some way other than through the opinion section of thestate.com and are curious, you can find out more about Warren and me and read our columns on our pages: thestate.com/bolton and thestate.com/scoppe. Warren writes primarily about local governments in Richland and Lexington counties. I write primarily about South Carolinas state government.
And all that cool stuff we come across in the course of our days, and those opinions we just cant fit in the newspaper, well be sharing here. In purple.
