Wednesday letters: Trashy roadways embarrassing

February 26, 2014

— As I ride along our highways, I am sickened by all the trash I see thrown from cars. When I came to South Carolina in the ’50s I remember seeing prisoners out on the roadways cleaning up trash. Why are we letting prisoners have three meals a day, watch TV and enjoy exercise time when they could get their exercise out in the fresh air cleaning up our roads and making the residents of South Carolina again proud of our clean roads and state?

I am embarrassed to think what people passing through our state must think of us as we demonstrate that we don’t care how our state is trashed. It seems to me the governor would have some input on how to keep our state looking clean and inviting to visitors.
