In a strong year for local teams, several Midlands athletes will get some extra playing time this season, and three have earned all-state player of the year honors from the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association.

Dreher junior Tevin Mack was selected Class 3A boys player of the year, and Blue Devils senior guard/forward Kaydra Duckett is the 3A girls player of the year. Jada Martin, of Fairfield Central, was named 2A girls player of the year.

The all-state teams include over a dozen local players: Irmo’s Jevante Gross and Javis Howard, Emarius Logan of White Knoll, Rion Davis from A.C. Flora, Quan Bovain of Airport, Keenan’s Marcus Stroman, Keith Workman of Fairfield Central and C.A.Johnson’s Peter Goodman all were chosen for the all-state boys teams.

Spring Valley’s Cierra Carter, Irmo’s Ke’Asia Jackson, Dutch Fork’s Sydney Shull, Kaela Mansell of Airport, Lower Richland’s Breshay Johnson, Chapin’s Shaleighya Sulton and Alexis Foulks of Columbia were among the honored girls.
