LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC — Lexington 2 could have its next superintendent in place this fall.
A plan outlined by the South Carolina School Boards Association calls for a search that ends with the choice as soon as Aug. 1.
Current superintendent Venus Holland is retiring in mid-2015.
School board members want her successor on board early to learn on the job.
New way to hire temporary teachers
Also in Lexington 2, the district is bringing in a temporary staff firm to handle substitutes for teachers who are sick or off for personal reasons.
A divided school board approved Thursday a one-year test of the change with Kelly Services.
The idea was approved 4-3 amid concerns about the quality of instructors, even though the firm is expected to use those now in place.
The move is an attempt to hold down the rising cost of health care insurance for some of the 150 fill-ins who work several days yearly, officials said.
