Columbia kicking off cornbread festival

March 1, 2014

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Cornbread is the star of an upcoming festival in Columbia.

Organizers of the South Carolina Cornbread Festival are scheduled to hold a kickoff event at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia on Saturday. The Miss SC Cornbread Festival pageant is part of this weekend's events.

The festival itself is taking place March 29 in Columbia. This year's events include a 5K run/walk, live music and a classic car show. There is also a cornbread cook-off.

Last year, nearly 10,000 people came to the inaugural festival.
