— The motorcyclist killed by a pickup truck driven by a man troopers said was impaired has been identified as a Gaston man, officials say.

Donnie Ray Gunter, 43, died Saturday night after the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a pickup truck in Lexington County, officials with the S.C. Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at 11:15 p.m. Saturday on Fish Hatchery Road, near where it meets Casadell Road, trooper Judd Jones with the patrol said.

Gunter was identified Sunday afternoon by Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harman.

Jesse Anderson, 23, has been charged with felony DUI, Jones said.

The crash happened when Anderson, driving south on Fish Hatchery Road in his 1994 Ford pickup, was attempting to make a left turn on to Casadell when he struck the 2001 motorcycle which was traveling north on Fish Hatchery, Jones said.

Anderson was wearing a seat belt, Jones said.

Gunter, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident, Harman said.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate.
