USC Dance Marathon waltzes up $318,649 for children’s hospital

— They danced to this and they danced to that, and by the time they were finished, coins filled the hat.

That could have been a dancing ditty written especially for more than 1,000 University of South Carolina students who for 24 hours rocked and swayed and shagged their way to raising money for the Columbia-based Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.

This year, they raised $318,649 – the most ever in some 15 years of dance marathons.

The annual dance-all-night, dance all-day charity Dance Marathon ended Sunday at noon at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center at Assembly and Blossom streets.
