A 44-year-old Elgin man was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison following a plea agreement on child sex charges.

Ronald Linwood Christmas has been arrested twice in the past three years for criminal sexual conduct with young victims. In 2011, he was charged with assaulting a child under 11. In May 2013, he was again charged with first-degree assault of a girl between 7 and 8 years old.

The sentence was handed down by Circuit Court Judge R. Ferrell Cothran following a negotiated plea agreement between the 5th Circuit Solicitors Office and Christmas’ attorney.

Christmas pled guilty to both charges with the sentences running concurrently for a total of 18 years.

“Although the children that Mr. Christmas assaulted will forever be affected by his actions, there is some consolation for them and their families knowing that he is being sent to prison for a long time where he cannot hurt any other children,” said Sheriff Jim Matthews in a news release.
