Viking Cup soccer opens Thursday

The 2014 Taco Bell Viking Cup girls soccer tournament runs Thursday through Sunday at Spring Valley High.

The elite girls soccer event features 32 ranked in-state teams, including Midlands entries A.C. Flora, Blythewood, Brookland-Cayce, Cardinal Newman, Chapin, Dutch Fork, Irmo, Lexington, Ridge View, River Bluff, Spring Valley and Swansea.

Thursday’s first-round matches: Spring Valley vs. Swansea (5 p.m.); Brookland-Cayce vs. Dutch Fork (5 p.m.); Lexington vs. West Florence (6 p.m.); River Bluff vs. Irmo (6:30 p.m.); Ridge View vs. A.C. Flora (7:30 p.m.); Blythewood vs. Chapin (8 p.m.).

Cardinal Newman opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Greenville.

Pool play continues through Saturday. Semifinal (9 a.m.) and championship (1 p.m.) matches follow on Sunday.
