— Columbia Police say they have arrested the parent of a Dreher High School student.

David Bass, 47, has been charged with 3rd degree assault and battery for attacking an officer and disturbing school. He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Jennifer Timmons, spokeswoman for the City of Columbia Police Department, said the school called for EMS for a student shortly before noon Thursday.

“The student’s parent was upset about something, and that’s when the assault happened on one of our officers at the scene,” Timmons said.
