For the rest of their lives, the C.A. Johnson Hornets will be talking about the day they fought back from an 18-point deficit to win the Class A state championship in overtime. The Hornets, led by eight seniors who have played together the past six years, topped Whale Branch 71-64 on Saturday at Colonial Life Arena to complete a playoff run they felt was predestined. ... FINAL: CLASS 2A BOYS

Newberry Bulldogs, 77 over Lake Marion Gators, 47

Colonial Life Arena turned into the Dawg Pound on Saturday afternoon as Newberry avenged two straight championship game losses with a 77-47 dismantling of Lake Marion in the Class 2A boys title game. It was a complete performance, and it could not have come at a better time for Bulldogs coach Chad Cary.

Dreher Blue Devils, 56 over Crestwood Knights, 44

Having labeled the 2013-14 campaign a season of redemption, Dreher seniors Kaydra Duckett and Makayla Johnson had hoped to be crying tears of joy after Saturday’s Class 3A championship game. But after the Blue Devils defeated Crestwood 56-44, Duckett and Johnson were dry-eyed and smiling wide at Colonial Life Arena.

A.C. Flora Falcons 51 over Darlington 42

A.C. Flora has a simple motto on the back of the T-shirts they wear for warm-ups. “See It Through.” The Falcons overcame their share of adversity throughout the season and pulled out a 51-42 overtime victory against Darlington in the Class 3A state championship game Saturday night at Colonial Life Arena. The win gave Flora its first boys basketball state championship since 1986 and the fourth in the program’s history.

FINAL: Class 4A girls: Dutch Fork 62, Greenwood 55

From tragedy to triumph this season, the Dutch Fork girls are a new dynasty in the Midlands. The Silver Foxes captured their third consecutive Class 4A state championship on Friday, defeating Greenwood 62-55 at Colonial Life Arena on Friday. But the third time was anything but easy.
