One person was killed, three others injured Friday in Sumter traffic accident

— One person was killed and three others injured Friday afternoon when two cars collided at the intersection of highway 378 and SC 763 (The Myrtle Beach Highway) in Sumter.

The accident occured at 4:11 p.m. when the driver of a 2013 Dodge Dart which was heading west on 378, tried to turn onto SC763 and hit an eastbound Kia which was carrying three people.

One of two passengers in the Kia was killed in the collision. Although the driver was wearing a seat belt, the two passengers were not, Sgt. Bob Beres of the highway patrol said.

The driver of the Kia was taken to Tuomey Medical Center. The surviving passenger was taken to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

After being taken to Tuomey Medical Center, the driver of the other car, 32-year-old Caesar Puente, was charged with failure to yield right-of-way and driving without a license. He was being held at the Sumter -Lee Detention Center Friday night.
