Three controlled burns create smoky haze over Columbia

— Do not be alarmed if you notice a smoky haze over downtown Columbia Monday.

According to Columbia Fire Department spokesman Brick Lewis, there are three big controlled burns taking place today, which is causing the haze.

The three burns are taking place near Screaming Eagle, on Fort Jackson and at Harbison State Forest.

All three burns plus the weather have caused there to be a smoky haze sitting over downtown Columbia, Lewis said.
