KERSHAW COUNTY — A 29-year-old Elgin woman was arrested Tuesday after deputies say she injured two people with a knife outside a Lugoff motel.
Brandie Hughes is charged with one count of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and one count of second-degree assault and battery after a woman was stabbed and a man was cut. Hughes was transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center and was awaiting a bond hearing, according to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.
Deputies were called to the Camden West Inn on U.S. 1 at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. It was the second time Tuesday that deputies were called to break up a fight between Hughes and another 29-year-old woman.
The second woman was found in the motel parking lot, with a stab wound to her torso.
Hughes and the injured man had been driven to Kershaw County by the man’s father. The man was taken by ambulance to Palmetto Health Richland, where he was treated and released. The injured woman was flown to Palmetto Health Richland with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Matthews, the man was cut when he tried to break up a fight between the two women that led to the stabbing.
A 23-year-old man, Ryan Braxton, was also arrested at the scene after deputies found him with drugs, Matthews said. He was also booked at the Kershaw County Detention Center on charges of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
