Top-ranked A.C. Flora pulled out a dramatic 2-1 Region 4-3A baseball win over Chapin Friday at Falcon Field.
The two-time defending state champion Falcons started the game winning rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, and produced the decisive run without putting a single ball into play.
Madison Stokes opened the seventh inning for ACF with a single but Everett Eynon followed with a ground ball double play. But Chapin could not get the final out to force extra innings. Donald Gillespie, Connor Desmond and Josh Hernandez all drew walks to load the bases. Gillespie trotted home with the winning run after Chapin reliever Matt Charpia hit Clay Blackwell with a pitch on a 0-1 count.
Chapin took the lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Chandler Engle off Flora starting pitcher Wills Chapman. The Falcons tied it at 1-1 in the third. Stokes led off with a single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Desmond.
Will Taks, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning, was the winning pitcher. Four Falcons pitchers combined for a two-hitter. Chapins only safeties came in the first and last innings.
Andy Halletts Falcons are off to a 6-0 start this season, 2-0 in region matters. Chapin falls to 2-4, 1-1.
