Head-on collision Friday night in Sumter kills one, injures 6 others

— The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal head-on collision that occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Friday on US 15 (North Main Street) at White Mill Road in Sumter.

The driver of a southbound 2006 Dodge Charger turning off of US 15 onto White Mill Road failed to yield right-of-way to a northbound 2011 Camry, the highway patrol said.

A passenger in the Dodge was killed. The driver and a child in the back seat were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver of the Camry, a 31-year-old Darlington woman, and her three passengers, which included two children in the back seat, were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. All passengers and drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the highway patrol said.

The driver of the Dodge Charger, 38-year-old James Wilson of Florence, was charged with failure to yield right-of-way.
