March 15, 2014

— The driver killed in a single-car accident Saturday in Lexington County has been identified.

Evin Scott Coombes, 21, of Columbia, was killed at about 1:30 p.m., at 306 Founders Road, Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harman said in a statement released Sunday. Coombes was pronounced at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident, Harman said.

Coombes was driving a 2007 Chevy Cobalt when the car ran off the road near Boiling Springs Road, hit an embankment, overturned and struck a telephone pole and tree, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

A passenger in the car was unhurt, senior trooper Hanna Wemberly said. Both Coombes and the passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate.
