Seven Oaks Park Baseball Complex Grand Opening: The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission will celebrate the opening of the renovated Seven Oaks Park Baseball Complex at 5:30 p.m. April 3 at 200 Leisure Lane. The day-long event will feature a ceremonial “first pitch” and spring sports games and activities. Admission is free and open to the public. (803) 772-1228;

City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Baseball/Softball Expos: Noon-4 p.m. March 22 at Pinehurst Park, 2300 Pinehurst Road (transportation provided from St. Anna’s and Martin Luther King parks). Expo will feature clinics, games, music, food, boys’ youth baseball for ages 9-14, girls’ youth softball for ages 8-14 and City Sluggers instructional baseball for ages 4-8. Cost is $25; assistance is available. Verification must be shown to receive free or reduced lunch. Equipment will be provided by the department. Lexington County Co-ed Kickball Leagues: Registration runs through March 31, with eight-game season beginning first week of April. Open to ages 18 and older. League meets Tuesday and Thursday nights at Pine Grove Sports Complex. Cost is $150 per team. (803) 359-4048, ext. 240

S.C. Senior Chess Championships: April 19 and 20 at Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort and Conference Center. Tournament is sanctioned by U.S. Chess Federation and S.C. Chess Association. Open to all USCF members who will be at least 50 years old by the end of the year. Players from other states are welcome, but only South Carolina residents are eligible to be recognized as state champion.


Run With Purpose Bunny Hop 5K: 8:30 a.m. March 29 at the Downtown YMCA, 1420 Sumter St. Packet pick-up and registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $30 if registered by March 28 and $35 on race day. Register at

Run for Your Life 5K/2-Mile Walk: 8:30 a.m. April 19 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital front parking lot, 2669 Kinard St., Newberry. Registration and packet pick-up is 7-8 a.m. Junior Jog, Easter Egg Hunt and awards ceremony will follow race. Entry fees are $25 for runners and $12 for walkers (price includes T-shirt).
