John Ballato has been named vice president for economic development at Clemson University. A materials science and engineering professor, Ballato serves as director of the Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies and academic director of the Clemson University Restoration Institute. His previous roles with the university include interim vice president for research and associate vice president for research and economic development. He is also a former faculty representative to the board of trustees. Ballato replaces John Kelly, who was named president of Florida Atlantic University earlier this year.
