Thursday letters: Require Freier to guarantee deal

March 20, 2014

— Now that Columbia City Council has given initial approval to spend our hard-earned tax dollars so Hardball Capital LLC owner Jason Freier can bring his baseball team to Columbia, council must provide maximum protection to city taxpayers.

Freier must be required to personally guarantee any deal between the city and Hardball Capital. He needs to have his skin in this game. Since Hardball Capital is a limited liability corporation, the city taxpayers have no protection if this venture fails. Thirty years is a very long time.
