Friday letters: It’s time to clean house in Columbia, Richland

March 21, 2014

— I have a few suggestions for solving Richland County’s ever-lingering election debacle and returning trust in city and county government.

First, fire the city manager and her staff. Fire the entire staff of the election commission.

Get rid of the folks on Columbia City and Richland County councils. After getting rid of these people, hire our returning vets. Don’t you think they have our best interests at heart? And if anyone deserves a great paying job, it’s a vet. After all, they went to war to fight for our freedoms, the right to vote being one of them. I guarantee they know how to be held accountable, and I don’t even have a dog in this fight.

There never will be any trust in city or county government until the house is cleaned, beginning at the top. Until that happens, Columbia will continue to be just a stop between Savannah and Charlotte.
