Tuesday’s spotlight soccer matches in the Midlands include:

Boys soccer

Chapin at River Bluff

Top-ranked River Bluff (8-1, 3-0) looks to complete its sweep of first-half foes in the Region 4-3A title race. The first-year Gators have already beaten top contenders A.C. Flora and Dreher and hope to add the seventh-ranked Eagles to the list. RB topped Flora 3-0 last week and nipped Dreher, 1-0, on Friday. Phil Savitz’s impressive rookie squad has allowed only three goals to date, none in region play … Chapin (5-3, 2-1) is coming off a 5-4 non-region loss to No. 2 Brookland-Cayce. The Eagles have a 3-2 loss to Flora in region matters.

Spring Valley at Blythewood

It’s a big Region 4-4A match for both teams. No. 12 Spring Valley (6-2, 2-0) hopes to keep pace with Irmo prior to its April 1 meeting with the Yellow Jackets. Adrian Thompson scored one goal in region wins last week and Ridge View and Lugoff-Elgin. Chris Weidner tallied twice vs. Ridge View … No. 7 Blythewood (7-2, 1-1) rebounded from a 1-0 loss to Irmo to thump Lugoff-Elgin 6-0 on Friday.

South Aiken at Lexington

No. 9 South Aiken (7-1-1, 1-0) takes on No. 5 Lexington (8-2, 1-0) in an early Region 5-4A test. The visiting Thoroughbreds won the region title last season. The Wildcats finished fourth, but made it all the way to the Class 4A title match before faltering in the playoffs. Lexington opened region play with a 5-0 win over North Augusta after suffering back-to-back one-goal losses to Irmo and Cardinal Newman. South Aiken has won six in a row since a 2-1 loss to Blythewood on March 1, including Friday 4-1 success against Dutch Fork in the region opener.

Girls soccer

Blythewood at Spring Valley

Blythewood (5-1, 2-0) edged Spring Valley (5-2, 2-0) for the Region 4-4A championship last spring, but is currently unranked while the Vikings are in the No. 8 spot. The winner takes the early lead in the title race. The Bengals tuned up for the showdown with a 4-0 win against Lugoff-Elgin on Friday as Savannah Purvis tallied a hat trick. SV, meanwhile, blanked Ridge View on goals by Angie Downs and Megan Huntley.

Lexington at South Aiken

Lexington, South Aiken and Dutch Fork shared the Region 5-4A title last season, and another tight three-team race for the prize is expected again this season. No. 5 Lexington (5-2, 1-0) opened the region season with a 4-1 win over North Augusta with Haley Naughton scoring two goals. No. 4 South Aiken (4-1-1, 1-0) edged Dutch Fork, 1-0, with Jessica Schifer accounting for the lone score.

A.C. Flora at Dreher

Unbeaten, third-ranked Dreher (8-0, 4-0) is set for its first series of challenging tests starting with a key Region 4-3A match against the archrival the No. 8 Falcons (3-3-1, 2-1). A region showdown with Chapin, another top 10 side, is a week away.

River Bluff at Chapin

In yet another top 10 confrontation, No. 9 River Bluff (3-3, 1-1) travels to face No. 7 Chapin (6-2, 3-0) in a Region 4-3A match. The first-year Gators after coming off a 3-0 loss to Dreher, while the Eagles are looking to stay unbeaten in conference action prior to next week’s showdown with Dreher.
