— A Midlands detention center guard was arrested in an undercover drug sting over the weekend.

Wesley Dale Gardner, 29, of Rembert sold drugs to an confidential informant in a gas station parking lot on Saturday, according to a report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Gardner, an officer with the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, faces a first-offense narcotics charge. He was released Sunday from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.

According to the report, Gardner first met the female informant at the detention center following her arrest. The two corresponded via phone and she was asked to stage a drug buy from him.
