Mobile app helps smooth the move for military kids

March 27, 2014

The Sesame Street Workshop teamed up with the Defense Department to create a mobile app to help the young children of military families cope with what are often frequent moves.

Military kids find themselves pulling up roots many times during childhood, sometimes as often as 6 to 9 times by high school, the Defense Department said.

The app is designed for children aged 3-to-5 to help them say good-bye to old friends and familiar surroundings and make new friends in their new home town. There’s also a parents resource section with suggestions for parents on how to smooth the move for their young ones.

The Big Moving Adventure is free and can be downloaded at the App Store, Amazon for Kindle Fire and Google play.

The app has already been downloaded more than 130,000 times since its initial release in December 2013, the Defense Department said.
