Lower Richland is expected to hire Mark Burnitz as the new boys head basketball coach Friday afternoon multiple sources have confirmed.

Burnitz has served as an assistant coach at Eastside High School in Greenville since 2002. He’s also served as an assistant coach at Dorman and Chester while gaining head coaching experience with Chester and Chesnee high schools.

This will be Lower Richland’s third coach since the end of the 2012 season. Zeke Washington was fired at the end of the 2012 season after five seasons on the job. Willie Thomas coached for two years before being relieved of his duties at the end of February after the Diamonds suffered a first-round playoff loss to Chapman.

Richland District One has announced a press conference for Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. to introduce Burnitz.
