There are a number of excellent soccer matches on the Tuesday schedule.
A.C. Flora at Cardinal Newman
The defending SCISA champion Cardinals (6-3-1) host the HSL Class 3A fifth-ranked Falcons (6-3-2) in an intriguing neighborhood contest at George Watson Stadium. Flora has won three in a row and is 5-1 in regular season play, losing only to top-ranked River Bluff. CNs last match was an impressive 2-1 win at Lexington.
Chapin at Dreher
Though neither team boasts a particularly noteworthy season record, this is a key Region 4-3A match that will keep the winner in the hunt for at least a shot at a second-place finish and a first-round home game in the state playoffs. Chapin heads to Memorial Stadium with a 5-5 overall record, 2-2 in region matters; the host Blue Devils stand at 4-5, 3-2.
Irmo at Spring Valley
Fourth-ranked Irmo (10-1, 4-0) is looking to complete a first half sweep in Region 4-4A with a win over No. 15 Spring Valley (6-3, 2-1). Irmo didn't wow last week, but the Yellow Jackets did not allow a goal in region wins against Ridge View and Lugoff-Elgin. Spring Valley suffered a big hit in its lone outing a 3-0 loss to Blythewood.
Lexington at Dutch Fork
The last time the Region 5-4A rivals clashed, the Wildcats completed their surprising run through the Lower State state playoff bracket with a 3-1 win at Dutch Fork. The upset earned Lexington its first-ever spot in the state title bout a classic match that Irmo won in a PK shootout after the teams battled to a 0-0 draw in regular play.
Swansea at Airport
The winner at Eagle Stadium takes over sole possession of first place in Region 5-3A. Airport stands at 11-3-1 overall, 2-0 in the region, while Swansea is 9-3, 2-0. Both Class 3A Top 10 sides had good showings at Airports Lady Eagle Classic tournament last weekend. The seventh-ranked Eagles went 3-1, losing only to Wade Hampton of Greenville, 1-0, in the championship match. No. 8 Swansea had a 2-1 showing.
Dutch Fork at Lexington
Its a Region 5-4A showdown between two Top 10 teams with 7-2 overall records. No. 4 Lexington sits atop the region standings with a 3-0 record, while DF is tied for second place with White Knoll at 2-1. The visiting Silver Foxes are coming off a 5-2 win over White Knoll, building a 3-0 lead by halftime. Carson Markland and Emily Jermstad scored two goal apiece. Lexingtons last outing was an 8-0 region romp over. Tiara Evans rang up four goals and teammate Mackenzie Currie found the back of the net twice.
Dreher at Chapin
Unbeaten Dreher (10-0) faces its first true test of the season at Cecil Woolbright Stadium against the 8-2 Eagles. Dreher is ranked third in Class 3A, while Chapin stands at No. 6. The teams share first place in Region 4-3A with 5-0 conference marks. Are the Blue Devils for real? This match should provide one. Chapin has had the tougher schedule so far, losing one-goal matches against Blythewood and Brookland-Cayce.
A.C. Flora at Heathwood Hall
While the Flora boys team takes on reigning SCISA champion Cardinal Newman, the Falcon girls (5-6-1) take on the defending SCISA girls champion Highlanders (4-3-1). ACF is ranked No. 9 in Class 3A with Heathwood No. 4 on the independent list. Two of Floras losses have been in shootouts. The Highlanders had a tough go last weekend at the Lady Eagle Classic at Airport going 0-2-1 against good public school opposition.
