CHUCK KENNEDY — KRT

Thanks to Ann Timberlake with the Conservation Voters of South Carolina for doing the counting for me. (Don’t you just love it when you get to mark a task off of Monday’s to-do list without having to do a thing?) As Ann just explained in a blast email:

As has been the case in past elections, 60% of House incumbents are unopposed - 69 of 115 - 45 Republicans and 24 Democrats. Of the 9 open seats, District 123 (Hilton Head) is the only one with no primary or general contest. 11 Republicans and 5 Democrats have primary opposition and there are 30 general election races. We’ll be looking at all of these and sharing our conclusions in the coming weeks.

The good news, then, is that nearly all the Republicans in the House can stop acting like lunatics, for fear of being taken out by lunatics in the GOP primary.

The bad news, of course, is that there’s not much we can do about the ones who really are lunatics, or who decline to drop the act. Or about the Democrats who are their own kind of crazy.

The State is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
