COLUMBIA, SC — Several children suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning when a car struck the rear of a stopped Lexington-Richland School District 5 bus taking children to Leaphart Elementary School.
Two children and the driver – all with apparent minor injuries – were taken to a local hospital for a checkup, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The other 17 students on the bus were taken to school in another bus, said District spokesman Mark Bounds.
“The school was stopped on Piney Grove Road attempting to load a child when this occurred,” said Trooper David Jones.
Jones said Rebecca Ramos, 37, was charged with driving too fast for conditions. She was driving 1995 Ford Mustang and was not injured, he said.
All their parents have been notified.
The school bus driver was not hurt, nor was he at fault in the incident, Bounds said.
The crash happened at 7:16 a.m., Jones said
