— It's almost time, chicken-lovers.

Lexington's newest Chick-fil-A restaurant has an opening date.

And it's only seven weeks away.

The new Saluda Pointe restaurant — at 4295 Sunset Blvd., near the intersection of U.S. 378 and I-20 — will open on May 22, according to the chain's website.

Lexington’s store will feature a dual drive-thru and a children’s indoor play area with a section for toddlers. It will employ around 80 people.

The Atlanta-based chicken chain — known for its mischievous bovine mascots that implore consumers to "Eat Mor Chikin" — has been expanding heavily in the Columbia area for the past five years.

In 2009, a couple hundred customers camped out at a new standalone restaurant in West Columbia for a chance to win 52 free meal tickets for No. 1 combos – a chicken sandwich, fries and a drink. The first 100 — chosen by a lottery system after a 24-hour campout — win the prize. The contest has a cult following wherever a new store opens.
