S.C. Senior Chess Championships: April 19 and 20 at Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort and Conference Center. Tournament is sanctioned by U.S. Chess Federation and S.C. Chess Association. Open to all USCF members who will be at least 50 years old by the end of the year. RUNNING

Run for Your Life 5K/2-Mile Walk: 8:30 a.m. April 19 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital front parking lot, 2669 Kinard St., Newberry. Registration and packet pick-up is 7-8 a.m. Junior Jog, Easter Egg Hunt and awards ceremony will follow race. Entry fees are $25 for runners and $12 for walkers (price includes T-shirt). Quarry Crusher Run: 9 a.m. April 26 at Vulcan Quarry, 545 Georgia St. The third annual race will reach a new depth of 427 feet below the earth. Participants will race 3.72 miles at a 10 percent grade. Registration includes a T-shirt. quarrycrusherrun.com

Festival of the Roses Road Race: May 3 at Edisto Gardens in Orangeburg. Race includes 5K, 12K, Double Down (17K) and Kids’ Fun Run. Part of the YMCA of Columbia 2014 Race Series. Register at columbiaymca.org

Prosperity’s Hoppin’ 5K Run/Walk: 8 a.m. May 3 at 250 School Drive, Prosperity. One-mile fun run open to ages 5-12.
