SCDPS: Six killed on SC roadways over the weekend

— Six people were killed on South Carolina roads over the weekend, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Of those six killed, two were pedestrians; one was a moped driver; one was a motorcyclist; one was not wearing a seat belt; and it’s unknown if a seat belt was worn in the last fatality.

To date, 181 people have died on South Carolina highways this year, compared to 188 during the same time period in 2013, according to the SC Department of Public Safety. In addition, 74 of the 141 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2014 were not wearing seat belts.

This year, 20 pedestrians, 13 motorcyclists and four bicyclists have died on SC roads and highways.
