Tuesday letters: Rush to approve ballpark stinks

April 8, 2014

— Does it occur to anyone that Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin is rushing the final vote on the Bull Street baseball fiasco because we soon will be receiving a large increase on our water bills to cover the repairs to our sewer system, said to be a whopping $750 million?

And let’s not forget the $500,000 fine the city incurred due to sewer spills and pollution-law violations. Oh, and the cost overruns for our New Year’s Eve party and our ice skating rink.

But, then, this is a mayor who sees no need for a cost-benefit analysis of the baseball proposal. And, we trust him? As Warren Bolton might say, “This stinks.”
