Two suspects sought in Chapin shooting

April 8, 2014

— A helicopter and bloodhounds were brought in to search a wooded area near Little Mountain for two suspects involved in a shooting at 5:30 p.m. outside a Chapin home Tuesday.

The victim, who was shot during an argument with the two suspects, was undergoing surgery Tuesday night, Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said in a release.

The two men have been identified, Metts said. Although they are armed, there’s no reason “to believe that they pose an immediate threat” to people living in the Chapin Community, Metts said.

The shooting occurred outside the house at 125 Bayfield Lane, in Chapin, near the Lexington-Newberry County border. Lexington and Newberry county authorities are involved in the search around Nursery Road south of Little Mountain. The area is heavily wooded and sparsely populated.

If you have any information about the shooting, you are asked to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
