Molly Spearman raises $90,521 in race for SC ed chief

— Molly Spearman, Republican candidate for state schools' chief, raised $90,521 from January through March all from individual donors. About 88 percent of the money she raised came from South Carolina donors.

Spearman, executive director of the S.C. Association of School Administrators, edged Sally Atwater who raised $86,041 including a $47,500 loan. Atwater is the widow of GOP operative Lee Atwater.

Of the $38,541 Atwater raised from donors, 13 percent was from South Carolina, and the majority -- 63 percent -- was from Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
