— Detectives with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department have determined that an armed robbery led to a shooting incident that occured last week.

Police say the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when two men with firearms stole money from another man outside a home on Bayfield Lane near Chapin.

Jeffrey Lewis Hentz, 22, and Demichael Edward Mayers, 20, both of Little Mountain began arguing with Antonio Williams, 34, of Prosperity, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said.

“Hentz and Mayers each were armed with firearms and used force to steal money from Williams,” Sheriff Metts said. “Mayers shot Williams in the face with a firearm.”

Williams was lifted by helicopter to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, where he successfully underwent surgery Tuesday night, the sheriff’s department said.

Lexington and Newberry sheriff’s deputies came together when a search for the two suspects began Wednesday morning.

Jeffrey Lewis Hentz, 22, of Little Mountain turned himself in on an attempted murder charge about 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts. Mayers was also arrested on Wednesday.

Sheriff Metts said Hentz and Mayers are being held without bond at the Lexington County Detention Center.
