Three area team rolling in Sandlapper

Gilbert, White Knoll and Pelion are undefeated through two rounds of the Sandlapper spring break baseball tournament.

Gilbert (16-1) has two one-run wins on the books – nipping North Augusta 7-6 on Saturday, and edging Batesburg-Leesville 5-4 on Monday.

White Knoll (8-12) pulled off two lopsided wins on Monday against Swansea (11-2) and Midland Valley (10-0). The highlight was a complete-game shutout performance by Caleb Ogden.

Gilbert and White Knoll square off at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Gilbert.

Pelion also has an early start on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. date at home against Batesburg-Leesville. The Panthers (12-4) whipped Buford 9-1 in a second-round game on Monday. Zach Hawkins led the hit parade with three safeties and he scored two runs. Ross Smith and Dylan Fairey had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Tyler Poole and Dalton Smith had two hits as well. Daniel Hawkins drove in two runs.

The Panthers opened the tourney with a 10-3 win over Edisto on Saturday. Hawkins was the star with a triple and a home run, good for four runs batted in.
