— Gov. Nikki Haley's re-election campaign has released its first two television commercials.

They start airing Wednesday statewide.

The Movement Fund, a pro-Haley political group, and the Republican Governor's Association have aired ads in the past year backing her or attacking her Democratic challenger Vincent Sheheen.

These ads represent the first major promotional spending by the Haley camp in her re-election bid and come seven months before her rematch with Sheheen, a state senator from Camden.

The Sheheen campaign, which has yet to air ads, said Haley's spots inaccurately portray her role in the improving South Carolina's economy and gloss over problems in her first term.

"While Haley is bragging about her economic record and spending millions on TV, South Carolina's residents are earning lower wages and a record number of people are giving up on finding jobs and dropping out of the workforce," Sheheen campaign manager Andrew Whalen said. "The people of this state are struggling, children are dying and in danger because of incompetence at (Department of Social Services), and the failed leadership of Nikki Haley exposed millions to identity theft and covered it up. It's time for new leadership."

Tom Ervin, a former state lawmaker and judge from Greenville, is mounting a petition run. He also released a TV ad this week.

Charleston businessman Steve French, a Libertarian Party candidate, and Morgan Bruce Reeves of the United Citizens party also are running.
