— Officials with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and Richland County continue to search for the man who jumped Tuesday off the I-20 bridge.

The man jumped from the bridge into Broad River shortly after noon, according to Richland County Sheriff’s deputies, according to a 911 call.

Deputies arrived on the scene quickly, as they were on the interstate near the scene when the 911 call came in, according to Capt. Chris Cowan with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Immediately K9 deputies, patrol deputies, divers from RCSD Marine Patrol and swift water rescue from Columbia Fire Department worked together in an attempt to locate the man.

In the man’s vehicle, deputies found paperwork and an ID for a North Carolina man. Cowan declined to release any details about the man’s identity.

"We've found nothing criminal at this point,” said Cowan, who said deputies have been in communication with N.C. authorities.
