COLUMBIA, SC — The S.C. Republican Party is asking Tom Ervin, who withdrew from the GOP primary for governor to run as a petition candidate, to stop calling himself a Republican in campaign ads.
Ervin of Greenville had filed to run as a Republican in Junes primary against Gov. Nikki Haley. But he later withdrew and announced that he would run as a petition candidate instead, giving himself more time to share his message.
S.C. GOP Chairman Matt Moore called a news conference Thursday morning to announce the letter, asking Ervin to cease and desist from calling himself a Republican in his campaign ads for his petition candidacy for governor.
