SCHOOLS

RIDGE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL students who attended the S.C. HOSA Conference and Competition and qualified for the National HOSA Leadership Conference are: Bria Dantzler, Quinton Bankhead, Akire Hoots, Courtney Lee, Elizabeth Bravo and Jada Williams. Danielle Worrell was named Outstanding HOSA Member and received the Barbara James Scholarship from State HOSA.

RIDGE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL Sparkleberry County Fair scholarship winners are: Sondrica Goines, Anel Khasiyetova, LaceyAnne Robinson and Medjina McStravick. McStravick also received the Debbie Hamm scholarship.

SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL FOR SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS had 18 students earn awards at the S.C. Junior Academy of Science Annual Spring Meeting. Local winners were Joe Marazzo of Columbia (first place, consumer affairs written presentation) and Regan Ulmer of Lexington (first place, environmental science oral presentation).

SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION president ElizaBeth Dickerson Branham has been elected to the National School Boards Association board of directors.

COMMUNITY

LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT has promoted three reserve deputies to supervise fellow reserve deputies: Lee Thomas of Columbia has been promoted to major; Russell Bauknight of Irmo has been promoted to captain; and Worth Rogers of West Columbia has been promoted to lieutenant.

THE WOMEN’S SOCIETY OF BATESBURG-LEESVILLE raised $500 for Sistercare of Columbia at its recent PJs & Pearls Brunch. Toiletry items were also collected and donated.

YOUTH

LINDA THOMAS has been named 2014 Richland Library Teen Volunteer of the Year. Thomas is a senior at Spring Valley High School.

MILITARY

AIR FORCE AIRMAN 1ST CLASS RASHON M. FENDERSON has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Adele Fenderson of Columbia.

NAVY SEAMAN LESTER J. WILLIAMS has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Lester and Aleathea D. Williams of Columbia.

DAVONTE D. AIKENS has joined the U.S. Army under the Delayed Entry Program. He is the son of Marsha D. Fields of Columbia.

DWAYNE D. EADDY has joined the U.S. Army under the Delayed Entry Program. He is the son of Dwayne Eaddy of Gaston.
