CN advances in SCISA baseball

April 28, 2014

Cardinal Newman won just two region games (five overall) during the regular season, but it was good enough to qualify the Cards for the Class 3A SCISA baseball playoffs.

Monday, CN (7-15) swept a first-round doubleheader from host Florence Christian to advance to the quarterfinals and a Friday twinbill at Hilton Head Prep. The Cards were 8-4 winners in the opener and sealed the deal with a 16-3 rout in the second game.

Meanwhile, Heathwood Hall and Ben Lippen split two games on Monday, and will face elimination games on the road on Tuesday. Both the Highlanders and Falcons took the first games of their respective doubleheaders only to lose in the nightcaps.

Heathwood Hall will try to keep its season alive with a win at Porter-Gaud. Ben Lippen faces the same do-or-die situation at Orangeburg Prep.
